
It is standard custom in the UK to offer a cuppa to the chap who is doing a job around the house for you... this is always enthusiastically accepted and the prospect of a biscuit to go with it, eagerly anticipated...
despite 3 recent attempts to the US workmen to sit down and have a brew - they have all refused - not a part of the culture over here... Interesting...
As an aside - the concept of 'having a brew' over here means to sit down and have a beer - not a cup of tea - so it does not always translate - I am careful to not try to offer beer to the workmen :-)
Maybe I should try to introduce the concept of 'A nice cup of tea and a sit down' over here then...
