We went to the La Brea tar pits to see the oil seeping to the surface in the middle of LA when Rog and Jane came to visit.
Its a cool place - thousands upon thousands of fossils have been recovered from the 'tar' which gathers in large pools, gets covered in water and traps unsuspecting tourists, erm, wolves, mammoths etc.
We saw a few tar coverd cones and thought maybe it was a student prank - nick a cone - chuck it in the tar - hilarious...
Turns out the tar just seeps up here and there every now and then (and why not?!) so they put a cone there so that unsuspecting children do not turn up thousands of years later as interesting fossils...
Jane had to poke it though - just to be sure..........

I sincerely hope that there was at least one rendition of "Come and listen to a story about a Man named Jed...a poor mountaineer who barely kept his family fed...etc etc" Q
We missed that one... but you can lead the song when you come over ;-)
