Not as universal as you might think...
One of the guys at work had his hair cut short - bit like a skinhead you might say - but not here apparently... Having written Skinhead on the whiteboard behind him with an arrow pointing to his head - Jason (who understands the UK skinhead terminology coz he lived there for a while) politley erased the word and informed me that it is not a term used in polite conversation over here, as it means that you are basically calling someone a white supremacist nazi!
Lesson learned there then :-)
