High voltage - hence no rock an roll...

So the thing about voltage is that the UK uses 240 of them and the US of A, who usually try to get bigger and better than the rest of us only manage to muster a mere 120 of them. This equates to nothing electronic or even plain electric wants to work here :-(

I did do some research before I came and found several transformers that will step up 120v to 240v - but having tried 3 now (one melted as shown in a previous post) none of them perform as expected...

Wattage - the theory is that if the unit requires 100w of power (like my X Box for example) - need to get a supply of at least double that to allow for power surges and such - so I bought a 300w transformer - and it still does not even light up the LED on the front!

Hertz - Global car rental company but more importantly here... electronics run at different hertz - usually 50 or 60 - most seem to be happy with either - and the supply seems to match up ok but so far the list of disappointments is growing:

Creature speakers - light up - no sound
X box - nothing
PS2 - ditto
Bang & Olufsen hifi - amp lights up - no sound - though as I turn up the amp - the lights go off as I increase the power (it is rated a 170w so 300w supply is a bit low)
Halogen lamp - turns on - but is very dim
Standard lamp - ditto halogen lamp

So, tonight I am reduced to the 'Hi Fi' solution you see above - it is very quiet and the very act of typing on this keyboard almost drown out the sound...

I'm not in danger of creating any noise pollution here...
